I strongly believe that individual invesors can achieve above average results by investing in a portfolio of exchange traded funds (ETFs) and writing covered call options on that portfolio. Very few individual (or professional for that matter) investors have the ability to achieve above average returns by chooisng individual stocks to own.
The best chance for individual investors to achieve better-than-average market performance comes from adopting a combination stratgy: indexing and covered call writing. To that end, below is a list of those ETFs for which listed options are available. For more details on how to construct a portfolio of ETFs and how to plan and execute the covered call writing strategy, see my new book, Create Your Own Hedge Fund: Increase Profits and Reduce Risk with ETFs & Options (John Wiley & Sons, Jan 2005).
